The court had ruled that I would own nothing despite having generated assets worth VND20 billion (US$824,486) throughout my 14-year marriage with my ex-wife.
I am in my 40s and recently divorced. My ex-wife and I were married for 14 years, and we have two children.
As I worked at sea, I only came home once every three months. I gave my ex-wife all my 200-million-dong monthly income, as well as various other monetary bonuses, throughout our marriage.
However, I was ruled to have no assets after our divorce. My wife claimed in court that all of our mutual investments, which used the money I had given her, were lost. She also said the remaining cash in our accounts had to be given to her sister, as we were in debt to her, though I do not even know when and what she borrowed money from her sister for.
The house we were living in was ruled to belong to my wife and our children as well.
I still have my job and can start over, but I feel so disheartened. My lawyer friend offered to help me file a case to ask for part of the assets, but I do not want to do so as I do not want our children to be sad.
I simply write things here out of the feeling of being heartbroken I am experiencing and my desire to share my story.
