A restaurant in the central province of Thanh Hoa is looking for a customer who paid VND270 million ($11,129) for a VND270,000 meal.
Hoang Hiep, the eatery’s owner from Lam Son Ward, said on Thursday he was looking for the customer, who paid for their lunch a week ago at the restaurant, in order to return the excess money.
At around 1:30 p.m. on Nov. 24, two people came to Hiep’s restaurant on Hang Than Street for a meal. The bill was VND270,000, but the customer sent a bank transfer through QR codes and mistakenly transferred VND270 million instead.
Hiep said he did not check his account at the point of the transfer, and only discovered that there was an abnormally high amount of money in his account in the evening. The customer however had left the restaurant several hours prior. According to security camera footages, the customer was a woman of around 40, who was with a friend.
Hiep’s family then posted the story on social media, hoping to find the customer and return the money. Many people have claimed to be the customer, but they have all proved to be imposters.
Hiep visited the bank himself to try to find the customer, but due to security protocols, the bank could not help him search for the person in question.
“It’s not my money so of course I have to return it,” Hiep said, adding that there have been other visitors to the restaurant who have mistakenly transferred hundreds of millions of Vietnamese dong in the past.
