Heat wave to persist in northern Vietnam until weekend

Due to the impact of a low-pressure area from the west, northern Vietnam regions have been facing a lengthy heat wave, expected to persist this week with the continued presence of the low-pressure area and the Foehn winds.

The highest temperatures in the north will range between 35-38 degrees, while areas like Hoa Binh and Hanoi could see temperatures reaching 39 degrees, according to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.

U.S. weather forecast service AccuWeather also said Hanoi’s temperatures would be around 29-39 degrees on Wednesday, while the rest of the week will see temperatures at 27-38 degrees. High-altitude locations like Lao Cai’s Sa Pa will see temperatures at 19-26 degrees this week.

Nguyen Van Huong, head of the center’s weather forecast department, said the heat wave was likely to persist until the end of the week in northern and central Vietnam. Starting next week, rains will come and the heat wave will end in these regions, he added.

Southern Vietnam and Central Highlands regions will see rain towards the evening. As monsoon winds get stronger at the end of the week, more rain will come to these regions.

Average temperatures across Vietnam in July are around 0.5 degrees higher than the average temperatures in previous years, according to the center.
