Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh is set to visit China where he will attend the World Economic Forum from June 25 to 28.
Upon the invitation of Chinese Premier Li Qiang and WEF founder and chairman Klaus Schwab, Chinh will pay an official visit to China and attend the WEF’s 14th Annual Meeting of the New Champions, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Wednesday.
The WEF has become a global forum that attracts the participation of national leaders, captains of industry and other thought leaders.
Vietnam has had a relationship with it since 1989, and is regularly invited to its annual meetings in Davos, Switzerland, and its conferences on East Asia.
In October 2022 Chinh met Schwab on the sidelines of the ASEAN Summit in Cambodia, and expressed the hope that the WEF would help Vietnam diversify the markets for its goods and improve its position in regional and global supply chains.
This year Vietnam and China celebrate 15 years of their comprehensive strategic partnership.
China was the first country in the world to establish diplomatic relations with Vietnam when it did so in January 1950.
Vietnam is China’s biggest trading partner in Southeast Asia, and China has been its top trading partner for long.
Last year their trade had been worth US$175.6 billion.
