Nawat Itsaragrisil, president of Miss Grand International, said Miss Grand International 2021 Nguyen Thuc Thuy Tien was immature for removing her title from her Instagram profile.

After unfollowing Tien on Instagram Friday, Itsaragrisil went on a livestream Saturday and called her “immature,” though the Vietnamese beauty queen had put her title back on her account the previous day.
According to Itsaragrisil, Pham Kim Dung, the national director of the Miss Grand Vietnam, was surprised by Tien’s move as the title brings many endorsements for the beauty queen.
Itsaragrisil said that he needed to voice his opinions to protect the name and the prestige of the pageant.
“I think this is a loss for Miss Grand International,” Itsaragrisil said. “Tien’s action caused many problems.”
Tien’s representative said the same day that Tien and Itsaragrisil were still on good terms, though refused to comment further.
Itsaragrisil had complimented Tien many times before the controversy. During the sash-giving ceremony in the 2022 Miss Grand International contest, Itsaragrisil said Tien was not the most beautiful contestant in the 2021 contest but was “definitely among the top five or 10.”
He has also praised Tien for her hard work.
Tien, 25, was crowned the 2021 Miss Grand International in Bangkok, becoming the first Vietnamese to win the pageant. After the contest, she became known for her charity projects and other volunteer activities. It is estimated that Tien has earned between two to three million dollars since her coronation.
