Airline companies are responsible for sending back passengers denied entry into Malaysia, said its Minister of Home Affairs Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution.
Under the new policy, airlines will be responsible for feeding, housing and returning any foreign travelers denied entry by immigration officials due to incomplete or incorrect travel documents, Malaysia’s Rakyat Post reported.
The decision was made in line with international laws as well as under Malaysia’s immigration regulations, he said at a press conference on Wednesday.
At the point of departure, airlines must find out if their passenger has a return ticket before issuing a boarding pass.
Nearly four million travelers arrived in Malaysia via Kuala Lumpur International Airport between January and June.
During the same period, nearly 15,000 travelers, mainly from Bangladesh, Pakistan and India, were denied entry, The Star reported, citing official statistics.
