Vietnam lost 2-3 to Indonesia in SEA Games 32 semifinals despite having more men in the second half. They will play the bronze medal match against either Thailand or Myanmar.
Things didn’t go well for Vietnam at the start when Indonesia got an early goal in the 10th minute. Pratama Arhan’s powerful throw-in managed to find Komang Trisnanda, who scored with a header.
After conceding, Vietnam tried to press higher on Indonesia’s side of the field and their efforts paid off in the 36th minute, with Nguyen Van Tung’s header goal.
Nine minutes into the second half, from another throw-in by Arhan goalkeeper Chuan pushed the ball out and it found Marselino Ferdinan, who took a shot outside the box and deflected off an Indonesia player before going in.
When Vietnam were struggling to attack, they got an advantage. Arhan got the second yellow after a foul and was sent off in the 60th minute.
Vietnam got 30 minutes to play with more men and finally found a goal in the 79th minute when Amiruddin Arrizqi scored an own goal.
In the remaining minutes, Vietnam failed to find another goal as they were too eager with their finishes. Then the worst case scenario happened to them in the sixth additional minute. From a counter-attack, Muhammad Taufany finished from outside the box and brought Indonesia the winning goal.
The 2-3 loss made Vietnam unable to defend their gold medal, after winning it in the last two SEA Games. They will head to the bronze medal match.
