Central Vietnam woman faces murder charge for trying to burn husband’s lover to death

Police have detained a 23-year-old woman and her mother-in-law for alleged attempted murder after they set fire to another woman over a perceived romantic tryst in Quang Nam Province.

On January 26, social media users shared a video of the incident, which took place in broad daylight on a street in Quang Nam’s Duy Xuyen District.

In the video, two people attack a woman in a residential area before one of them pours gasoline over her and sets her on fire. The victim is seen burning for about 20 seconds before witnesses put out the flames.

Witnesses then rushed the unconscious woman to a local hospital for emergency care.

The culprits were then identified as Nguyen Thi Diem Phuong, 23, and Dang Thi Thong Nhat, 44, who both reside in the central province.

According to the police, Phuong believed that her husband was having an affair with the 28-year-old woman from Da Nang, which borders Quang Nam.

On the morning of January 26, Phuong caught her husband carrying the woman out of a karaoke bar on his back.

Phuong and her mother-in-law then charged the woman and began to beat her.

It wasn’t long before Phuong doused the woman with 1.5 liters of gasoline and set her on fire.
