Tan Son Nhat International Airport in HCMC handled more than 149,000 passengers on Friday, the highest single-day passenger number at the country’s largest airport.
A manager of the airport said 91,000 of those passengers flew into Ho Chi Chi Minh City from elsewhere, including 71,000 on domestic flights.
Around 58,000 passengers departed from HCMC, including more than 39,000 on domestic flights.
Friday’s traffic broke the record set the previous day, the last day of the Tet break, which was 145,000.
In 2019, the year before the onset of the Covid pandemic, Tan Son Nhat welcomed around 128,000 passengers on a peak Tet day.
Tan Son Nhat is estimated to receive more than 3.8 million passengers on 27,000 flights during the 2023 Lunar New Year holidays, up 10% in terms of the number of passengers against 2019.
