Deputy chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Chu Xuan Dung has been expelled from the Party by the Secretariat, three weeks after being arrested for allegedly receiving bribes.
In a Friday meeting, the Secretariat declared that Dung had violated democratic centralism principlesas well as Party regulations and the law.
He was also negligent when it came to management at hispost, enabling corruption and losses to the state budget.
On Thursday, the Central Inspection Commission said the Party Committee of the Hanoi People’s Committee had violated democratic centralism principles and was negligent in management, allowing certain individuals and organizations to commit violations regarding the sale, managementand use of medical products and equipment, as well in the repatriation of Vietnamese citizens duringthe Covid-19 crisis.
Dung was arrested in December last year due to allegations that he had received bribes as anorganizer of repatriation flights during the Covid-19 pandemic and ensuing lockdown.
Dung, 49, had spent years working in the field of education. He became deputy chairman of theHanoi’s People Committee in December 2020, after three years working as director of the city’s Department of Education and Training.
