JW Marriott Hanoi developer’s $1M incentives go against regulation

The developer of JW Marriott Hotel Hanoi, Bitexco Group, has received incentives from city authorities which went against regulations and it should pay VND26.2 billion ($1.08 million) in land rent, the Government Inspectorate says.

Bitexco Group had received land from the Hanoi People’s Committee in 2008 to construct the five-star hotel, but approval from the Hanoi People’s Council, was yet to be given, the inspectorate says.

It has also pointed out other violations.

The property’s actual land usage was different from the plan approved by the Ministry of Construction, with hotel and garden area down 5,497 square meters and the water area up 5,224 square meters from the approved design.

Bitexco did not submit a correct estimation of the number of regular workers at JW Marriott in 2013-2014.

The inspectorate has proposed that the government punishes violators and revokes land area at Marriott that has not been used according to the approved plan.

JW Marriott is a luxury hotel located in the western district of Tu Liem. It has 450 rooms, two conference halls and six restaurants.
