HCMC – Long Thanh – Dau Giay Expressway linking the city with its neighbor Dong Nai Province should be extended to eight or 10 lanes with VND14.8 trillion ($605.6 million).
Vietnam Expressway Corporation (VEC), which manages the expressway, has proposed to the Ministry of Transport that a 21.9-kilometer section of the 55-kilometer expressway should be expanded.
Of the proposed fund, the construction cost is nearly VND10.7 trillion, while the rest will be allocated toward site clearance, project management, consulting and other expenses.
The project will be carried out from the fourth quarter this year to the first quarter of 2026, the VEC said.
It asked for permission to raise funds from different sources on its own to save time and ease the burden on the state budget.
The corporation said it has completed the restructuring project, and that its charter capital in the 2022-2025 period is expected to increase to VND49.56 trillion, ensuring the ability to access loans for the project.
Costing VND20.6 trillion, HCMC-Long Thanh-Dau Giay Expressway opened in February 2015 to connect Vietnam’s biggest city and economic hub Ho Chi Minh City with Dong Nai, home to many industrial zones and the nation’s biggest airport to-be, Long Thanh.
The four-lane expressway is already overloaded, while traffic demand is currently 25% higher than route capacity.
