National Australia Bank (NAB), Australia’s largest business bank, has expanded its innovation capacity in Vietnam by opening an office in Hanoi alongside its center in Ho Chi Minh City.
Steve Day, NAB Chief Technology Officer – Enterprise Technology, said the teams working across locations in both Hanoi and HCMC are providing vital support in technology projects that are delivering improved customer experiences.

“Talented technologists are in high demand across the world, especially in Australia. Vietnam has great depth in technology talent and we want great people to come and join us to help create best-in-class, high performing teams focused on development, alignment and a one-way same-way approach. We want to invest in the development of our people and contribute to the growth of the local technology sector in Vietnam,” Day said.
In 2019, NAB launched its innovation center in HCMC to tap into Vietnam’s rich pool of technology talent to help it better serve its eight million customers. The innovation center has been playing an important role in delivering critical projects that are improving experiences for NAB customers.

NAB has provided education and training to more than 7,000 employees in cloud technology skills, which has delivered more than 2,700 industry recognized certifications, including team members in Vietnam.
“Our colleagues get access to a wide variety of projects and opportunities, world-class training through programs like our NAB Cloud Guild and work alongside global partners such as AWS and Microsoft,” Day said.
He assessed Vietnam as an emerging IT market for digital-related, new generation technology, with a fast-growing digital economy. It is ranked among the top 10 countries for the most engineering graduates; has major government investment in STEM degrees; came sixth for top coders in the IT global rankings; and as of 2019, had over 400,000 IT engineers.
While offering both operational capabilities and technical skillsets to its workforce, the NAB innovation center provides a promising career destination for hundreds of software developers, data scientists, digital designers, software engineers and data analysts in Vietnam.
The innovation center has also kicked off a series of diverse programs to empower and develop student career directions, promote gender diversity, and assist career switchers to enter the IT industry.
“We are committed to providing our trainees with not only hands-on software development courses but also English and soft skills training to get them ready for the next step in their careers,” the NAB CTO said.
