Tropical depression to bring rains to northern Vietnam

A low-pressure area has been formed in the northern area of the East Sea, causing rains in northern Vietnam from Friday.

According to the National Center for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting, the center of the low-pressure area lay to the south of Guangdong Province, with maximum wind speed of 50 kph at 1 p.m.. on Thursday.

In the next 24 hours, the area will move in the west-northwest direction at the speed of 10-15 kph and enter Guangdong.

Under its impact, Hanoi and other northern localities will receive heavy rains in the next three days.

The rain volume each day is forecast at 40-80 millimeters and up to more than 100 millimeters in some places.

The low-pressure area will also bring rains to the south.

On Thursday afternoon and evening coastal areas from the central province of Binh Dinh to the southernmost province of Ca Mau are likely to get heavy rains and strong winds.

Ho Chi Minh City and its surrounds will continue to be hit by heavy rains and strong winds for the next few days.

Vietnam should expect 10-12 storms and low-pressure areas in the East Sea this year, with around half making landfall.

So far this year, only one storm, Chaba, arrived in July.
