A 20-meter power pole in Ho Chi Minh City collapsed and pinned down a truck Monday morning, sparing the lives of people still on the road.
At around 7 a.m., after a driver parked his truck on Ben Nghe Street of District 7 to go buy some water, a power pole nearby suddenly fell onto the vehicle. Sparks started to pop into the air, sending passersby into a panic.
The incident resulted in a blackout, affecting hundreds of families.
“At the time, many workers were on their way to work. Thankfully there was a truck to keep the pole from completely falling to the ground, causing no physical harm,” said Lan, who lives nearby.
Authorities have since barricaded the road section and cut out the power for safety. Dozens of electricians came to relocate the pole elsewhere. A worker said the pole had been in place for nearly a decade.
