Athletes hit the water on first day of canoeing

HÀ NỘI — The women’s 1,000m canoe four gold went to Việt Nam on May 19, thanks to the efforts of Nguyễn Thị Hương, Trương Thị Phương, Nguyễn Thị Tuyết and Diệp Thị Hương. 

The host’s team finished with a time of 4 min15.8 seconds to beat Indonesia’s Ratih Ratih, Dayumin, Numeni and Sella Monim, who came second with 4min 25.004sec.

Thailand’s Suthimon Chuea Thamdee, Paweena Khamchon, Aphinya Sroichit and Orasa Thiangkathok took bronze with a time of 4min 25.611sec.

Phạm Hồng Quân and Hiền Nam of Việt Nam then won gold in the men’s canoe double 1,000m with a time of 4min 4.803sec.

Thai Piyawat Chaithong and Pitpiboon Mahawattanangkul finished second in 4min 16.06sec, while Hermie Macaranas Salazar and Ojay Fuentes Franzuela from the Philippines came third with 4min 9.85sec.
