Japan’s Yokohama F. Marinos registered another victory over Vietnam’s HAGL in their second group H match in the AFC Champions League Thursday night, scoring two goals to none.
Yokohama dominated the match in HCMC’s Thong Nhat Stadium with 69 percent possession and 722 successful passes. The pressure from the away team was evident right from the start. In the first 30 minutes, goalkeeper Huynh Tuan Linh had already made five saves. Five minutes later, defender Nguyen Huu Tuan tackled striker Teruhito Nakagawa inside the box in an attempt to clear the ball. The referee pointed to the spot and striker Marcos Junior opened the score with a shot into the bottom right corner.
HAGL’s opportunities in this game mainly came from individual efforts of striker Nguyen Van Toan with his speedy sprints. But the closest chance was when defender Kim Dong-su won the ball and passed it to the left for Vu Van Thanh. It was five on five, but Thanh chose to finish right away instead of starting a link-up play.
There was not much more that HAGL managed in the game. Yokohama kept creating dangerous plays. Striker Leonardo Pereira’s header from a Junior right cross in the 52nd hit the post.
Yokohama scored their second goal in the 83rd minute. From a corner kick on the right, center-back Shinnosuke Hatanaka got a header from an unmarked position and beat goalkeeper Tuan Linh.
HAGL have just one match left against Australia’s Sydney FC this Sunday to try and register their first victory of the tournament.
