Le Xuan Huy, driver of bus 86 in Ho Chi Minh City, handed out flowers and gifts to many female passengers to celebrate International Women’s Day (March 8).
In addition to flowers, female passengers also received confectioneries, souvenirs and free fares from the 40-year-old bus driver from Tan Phu District. |
“During my four years working as a bus driver, every International Women’s Day, I buy flowers for female passengers, hoping it would bring some joy to their lives,” Huy said. |
Huy visits Dam Sen flower market in District 11 on Monday to buy nearly 300 roses. |
He also bought candy, keychains, and souvenirs for about VND7 million ($306.37). |
He typically decorates his bus with dolls and keychains. |
On Tuesday morning, he got up early to decorate the bus with rose branches. |
Before leaving the station at 5:30 a.m., a female staff member of the bus station in District 1 becomes the first woman to receive flowers and gifts from Huy. |
Huy also went to the operating room to send greetings and roses to staff on duty that day. |
He uses the time waiting for passengers at each stop to deliver gifts to female passengers. |
“The value of the gift is not great, but seeing all the female passengers surprised and happy makes me happy. Since the pandemic hit, not many passengers take the bus. Meanwhile, in previous years, I gave out hundreds of flowers in one morning,” he said. |
Minh, 63, took the bus from Nha Be District to Ben Thanh Market in District 1 to sell goods. She said that she was very surprised since this is her first time riding the bus without having to pay the fare and receiving flowers, gifts and candies. |
Huy reveals he also gives lucky money to passengers during the Lunar New Year holiday. |
