50 Thai cops filming hide-and-seek with American YouTuber to be investigated

Damrongsak Kittipraphat, Commissioner of the Royal Thai Police, said YouTuber Nathan Bartling, known as MyMateNate, and officers appearing in his vlog could face legal consequences.

According to Thaiger, Bartling said in his vlog, which was uploaded to his social media accounts on June 17 and featured his team in a hide-and-seek game with a team of 50 Thai police officers, that: “I hired 50 police officers to hunt for me and my team members in the abandoned shopping mall!”

As said by Kittipraphat, content seeking to feature Thai police are required to submit their details to the Royal Thai Police at least five days prior to the media production. An investigation will be held to look into the officers’ identities and whether they were given the permission aligned with the law.

The vlog also received varied responses from netizens.

While some questioned the reason why the officers participated in the filming instead of being available at their respective stations in case of emergency and criticized them for their recklessness, others, including former Prime Minister candidate Sita Tiwaree, believed the game provided a valuable training opportunity for them.

“I consider this game as training for the police,” Tiwaree said. “It gave a lot of benefits.”
