50 pct of factory workers eye higher wages, more benefits

Fifty percent of factory workers want to switch jobs to get better benefits and more flexible working hours, a study by recruitment company ManpowerGroup Vietnam has found.

Their biggest demands are the freedom to choose when to begin and end their workday and where to work and more vacations, according to the report released Tuesday.

Around 49 percent of women respondents are less optimistic about their career prospects than before Covid-19, and 57 percent among them intend to quit their current job within two years.

Another poll of over 1,300 workers by recruitment platform Viec Lam Tot found over 60 percent want to switch jobs and work online or as delivery people.

The director of the company, Tran Minh Ngoc, said this year workers have been demanding higher salaries and more benefits, and manufacturing companies, which usually require workers to show up at the factory, are having challenges recruiting, and added this trend would continue.

Nguyen Thu Trang, senior recruitment director at ManpowerGroup, said companies need to offer competitive salaries and ensure a good working environment to retain workers.

Hiring temporary workers would help them reduce costs by at least 30 percent, he added.
