There were 83 traffic accidents in which 50 people died during the three-day New Year holiday that ended on Monday.
Another 51 people were injured.
The number of deaths and injuries were 31% and 45% higher than a year ago when it was again a three-day holiday. The number of accidents rose by 29%.
There were also 21,800 cases of violations of traffic rules for which the police slapped fines of more than VND37 billion ($1.57 million), revoked 3,600 people’s driving licenses and seized 6,540 vehicles, including 388 cars.
