48 bus routes to provide access to HCMC’s 1st metro line

HCMC plans to launch 22 new public bus routes and make changes to 15 existing ones to provide easy access to its almost-completed first metro line.

The Public Transport Management Center said of the new routes three would run also through Binh Duong and Dong Nai provinces and the other 19 would connect schools and residential hubs like the Vietnam National University, Vinhome Grand Park and Masteri An Phu.

Of the 15 existing ones to be adjusted, four would run to neighboring provinces, and 11 run within the city, connecting with the metro line’s Tan Cang Station in Binh Thanh District, Mien Dong Bus Station, as well as Suoi Tien Station in Thu Duc City.

The 11 other unchanged bus routes are running through underground stations in the city’s center, and along Hanoi Highway.

All 14 stations on the Ben Thanh-Suoi Tien metro line will be connected by bus services, with 29 routes serving Ben Thanh Station, the highest number.

The additions and changes to the bus network, approved by the city People’s Council, are budgeted at VND93 billion ($3.9 million).

It will also fund the renovation of 230 bus stops and construction of infrastructure like parking lots and pedestrian walkways.

The first metro line, built at a cost of over VND43.7 trillion, is 94% complete and will run around 20 km from District 1 to Thu Duc City. It will have three underground stations and 11 elevated ones.
