The New Chitose Airport in Hokkaido saw 225 flights either delayed or canceled due to the disappearance of a pair of scissors from an airport store.
The incident occurred around 10 a.m. Saturday, prompting airport authorities to suspend security checks, according to a report by Yomiuri Shimbun. Passengers who had already passed through security were required to undergo the screening process again, leading to widespread delays and cancellations.
In total, 190 flights were delayed, and 35 were canceled due to the security lapse. Despite an extensive search, the scissors were not found, and normal operations resumed approximately two hours later.
The airport’s management confirmed that all domestic flights were grounded during the two-hour disruption, forcing around 30 passengers to spend the night at the airport, the Dimsum Daily reported.
