A car plunged into many motorbike drivers waiting to cross a red light in Tay Ho District on Wednesday, injuring 17 people including children.
The car, controlled by Hoang Ho Vinh, 63, hit the motorbike drivers from behind at more than 4 p.m. at the cross between Vo Chi Cong and Xuan La Roads.
It continued to turn left into Xuan La, dragging some victims underneath, according to witnesses.

“It was so fast. Hundreds of people were screaming,” said witness Trong Nam, who added that there were children among the victims.
Victims’ personal belongings were seen all over the area after the accident as they were taken into hospitals by local residents and emergency personnel.

Hanoi police did not find signs of alcoholic or drugs consumption on Vinh, who said he drove the car from Hanoi Heart Hospital No. 2 on Vo Chi Cong Road, where he took his wife for a checkup.
The accident happened near rush hour and caused a traffic jam on many roads in an area of 1.5 kilometers.
