The pre-wedding photos, which captured the couple standing near a big stone carved with the name of Can Tho University in front of its operation house, have received more than 4,000 likes and hundreds of comments from netizens after they were published on the Facebook page of the university’s deputy president.

A number of Facebook users voiced their disagreement, mocking whether the university, located in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho, is becoming a wedding venue.

“The operation house is where Can Tho University staff and leaders work. It is not a venue for entertainment and photo shoots,” a person whose nickname is Meo Muop said while some others criticized that the couple even stood on grass.

On the other hand, many people expressed their support for the couple.

“Why didn’t this couple choose other more beautiful places for their photo shoot but Can Tho University?” Ngoc Diem wondered. “It’s simply because they wanted to select the place to mark their happiness.”

“I think this does not have any influence on our traditional customs,” she added. “It should be welcome.”

Another netizen, Phan Tuan, also agreed that the photo is just beautiful and normal.

“Many people want to shoot their pre-wedding photos on university campuses as a memory,” he said. “It’s priceless.”

Commenting on this photo shoot, Dr. Do Van Xe, who posted the bridal photos on his Facebook, also said they are just normal.

He told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper that the school’s leaders want to build a friendly learning environment so they decided to construct a beautiful campus.

For long time the university has been a place not only for its students but also for local residents to exercise, entertain, and relax, he added.

“Taking pre-wedding photos on the campus of the university, even in front of the office of the administrative board, in my opinion, is normal,” he said. “Weddings are good news that should be embraced. We do not ban them.”

Meanwhile, Nguyen Thanh Tung, vice secretary of the university’s Communist Youth Union, added that Can Tho University also has other beautiful spots like the lotus lake, the watch tower, etc.

“It’s very hard to find a green place like this in inner Can Tho City so it’s good when people come to our school for the landscape,” he said. “There’s no reason for us not to share this with other people.”
