Deputy Minister Hien also divulged Vietnam is fielding a representative team of four to compete in IChO 2014. The country has so far completed preparatory work to ensure safety and security for the coming event, he added.

The theory and practice exams of the competition are set to take place at the National Convention Centre and the Hanoi National University of Education (HNUE), respectively.

IChO 2014 organizing board head Dr. Bui Duy Cam said the competition aims to boost international exchange in chemistry, develop students’ passion for the subject and encourage creativeness.

The IChO is an academic competition for high school students under the age of 20. Participating countries take turns hosting the annual event. Vietnam has become the 7th country to host the IChO.

Earlier, Vietnam successfully hosted the Maths Olympiad in 2007 and the Physics Olympiad in 2008.
